5 years ago today in the Civil Affairs Office in Guangzhou, China, a very frightened, upset little girl was placed in my arms. I was a first time parent and the visions that I had for the 16 months of my wait of my little girl being happy at placement did not happen. She did eventually calm down with the help from her Institute Director. He brought wafer cookies for the 3 three girls from Qingxin, and that wafer cookie was a lifesaver. M. grabbed it and stuck it in her mouth and stopped crying. She held onto that cookie for the rest of the evening. Even through her crying, I could tell that M. was beautiful and we were falling in love with this tiny girl. She was so small with lots of black hair. We finally got a smile from her the second day and from then on she bonded wondefully (well with me very well but it took her a little while to let her daddy do anything for her). Today, M. is still a beautfiul 5 year old and we couldn't imagine our life without her energy, her love and her fun personality.

M's referral photo. Don't you just love that grin?
This was taken right after M was placed in my arms. She was so upset and wouldn't stop crying.
The Institute Staff. Mr. Chen was the director and he was just wonderful with the girls.
She loved that cookie!

M's first smile. We were at the Civil Affairs office finalizing her adoption. She also loved those stacking cups.
A few days later in Guangzhou. A total different little girl who loved to smile.
M. today.
To celebrate M's 5 year Family Day and also her 6th Birthday, M and I will be traveling to Beijing, China in a couple of weeks. We will leave on Feb 2 and return on the 10th. We are going on a Chinese New Year tour in Beijing. M will also be celebrating her 6th Birthday while we are in China. She is so excited and wants to leave today! She can't wait to see the Great Wall and the acrobatic Show.
